On the western part of India’s coastal belt known as Konkan lies a coast of natural beauty often dubbed as “Pearl of the Orient” which make it a popular tourist destination. This coastal paradise is called Goa.
Goa’s fabulous coastline is the bait that lures travelers from the four corners of the world. Framed by the green splendor of the Sahyadri mountain range and the blue expanse of the Arabian Sea, made up the magnificently inviting coastline and beaches that never fail to draw oohs and ahhs from visitors the world over.
But it’s not just the beautiful setting that transfix travelers and locals alike. A Goa vacation is not unlike a travelogue into its history. Legends of Hindu mythology have it that Goa was founded by Lord Parshuram, said to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Down through the ages Goa India had been ruled by dynasties and foreign conquerors - notably the Portuguese who made an impact on the Goan’s way of life and religion. Christianity in fact made its inroad in Goa like no other place in India, during the Portuguese reign.
Additionally, ancient temples, churches and old houses are a study in contrast with twentieth century structures - wonders of the hinterlands delightfully contrasting with tourism modernity.
Goa is a virtual melting pot that transcends race and ethnic background differences, where the cultures of East and West blend, where religious tolerance is given wide berth and due respect. From which a unique, multi-colored lifestyle evolved. The Goan’s warm and friendly nature plus the fact that the English language is widely spoken - complements Goa’s natural attractions that enthuse visitors no end.
Goa is traversed by rivers and of course there is the ocean - both of which are teeming with fishes and bounties that provide a good source of food and livelihood for the locals and part of the allure and adventure for vacationers.
Does it look like the vacation of a lifetime and good time await you at Goa? You bet!
